2011 PHOTO CONTEST
MEASURING OUR SUCCESS
Ivan Hayes (center), Maintenance Supervisor, Sedco Express, holds the plaque presented to Transocean by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, as a thank you for the group’s fundraising efforts. Joining Ivan for the presentation were Sedco Express crew members, Transocean Israel office employees and Make a Wish Israel employees.
The annual Sedco Express Christmas/New Year charity appeal continues to grow and catch the excitement and spirit of crew members, our customer, Noble Energy, and third-party personnel alike, setting a new record for the total amount collected for the third year in a row.
The Sixth Annual Christmas/New Year charity appeal ended on March 30, 2012 with $6,092 in donations from the crew of the Express, third-party service personnel and shore-based support teams. Transocean Mediterranean Division backed the coffers with $2,500, which gave the campaign a healthy $8,592 going into the final fundraising event – the auction.
A total of 131 lots donated by crew members and bolstered by gifts from Noble and service companies were up for bids, including cameras, iPods, Sony PSPs, mystery gifts and of course the now famous and traditional Terry’s Chocolate Oranges, which this year fetched a record $91. “When the final hammer fell, we had raised an amazing $6,081, giving us a grand total of $14,673,” reported auctioneer Ivan Hayes, Maintenance Supervisor, Sedco Express. “Our chosen charity since arriving in Israel in October 2010 has been the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and it was with great pride that we were able to present this money to them on April 10. We hope the funds we’ve raised help to make a wish come true for one or more of the children associated with the Israeli branch.”
Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children, between the ages of three and 18, who have life-threatening medical conditions. The organization was founded in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1980, and Mishelet Lev, the Israeli affiliate of Make-A-Wish, was founded in 1996.
“Ivan has been the driving force behind this worthy cause,” said Alok Jha, Branch Manager, Israel. “I am proud to be associated with the rig that has a leader like Ivan and the team behind him making the difference to little kids supported by Make-A-Wish. Thanks a million, as Ivan would say.”
