Last summer, Transocean’s U.K. employees again gathered at Piperdam resort near Aberdeen for the North Sea Division’s annual fun-filled employee event, which includes golf, fishing, clay shooting and – the icing on the cake – giving back to those in need.

The team raised £17,270, more than any previous event, which was donated to the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (a recipient last year,, Help for Heroes (, the Deepwater Horizon Memorial Fund ( and the Rotary Club of Banchory through the sale of raffle tickets at the event.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of our volunteers from the office, and in particular Jane Keenan, who we are considering transferring to Marketing due to her sales techniques,” joked Dave McEwen, North Sea Division HR Manager.

Dave also acknowledged everyone else involved in the event, including many of Transocean’s suppliers for attending and donating money (one very generous guest donated £20,000 to CHAS after one of our employees, Victor Henderson, told him about his son’s experience with the organization), event organizers Anne Paton and Malcolm Allan, as well as all of the employees who attended.

The Piperdam event was launched in 2001 bring together as many offshore and onshore employees as possible. Since the first gathering of about 25 employees, the event has become increasingly popular – more than 400 employees (not including children and guests) turned up in 2010!

“This event is a place to meet old friends from other rigs and make new friends along the way,” said Dave. “It really shows that we are a company who cares for our people, their families and our community.”
