Macondo Update

It has been more than a year since the tragedy on the Deepwater Horizon. Since the permanent plugging of the Macondo well last fall, a number of activities are continuing around the aftermath of the incident.
Transocean’s legal, investigative and operational teams continue to work with the various governmental bodies that are investigating the causes and lessons learned from the tragic events of April 20 and beyond. During the past year, representatives from Transocean have participated in countless meetings, hearings and calls to answer questions regarding the Macondo event and offer expert insight into the technicalities and intricacies of deepwater offshore operations. These have included televised hearings in Houston, New Orleans and Washington, D.C.
The Transocean investigative team, now led by Dan Farr with a multi-disciplinary team of Transocean employees, continues to work on our internal investigation of the Macondo event. A full report of Transocean’s findings and conclusions is expected in mid 2011, which will cover the causes. Hundreds of Transocean employees have been working with the team to collect enormous amounts of data and documents to help create a comprehensive, far-reaching report that will be communicated to all employees and also publicly.
On April 20, to mark the one-year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon tragedy, we held a private service for the families of the 11 men who were lost. During this ceremony we dedicated a sculpture, which was cast in the form of a Transocean rig worker, as a permanent memorial to these 11 men. Our thoughts and prayers will forever remain with the families of those lost and injured. And also with the thousands of Transocean employees who are working around the globe to provide safe, reliable operations with the highest levels of professionalism. All of us appreciate those who are continuing to pursue the causes and the lessons learned from the Macondo incident.
Transocean greatly appreciates your ongoing hard work, commitment and loyalty to our great company.
