Hibiscus, Grand Banks Crews Rescue Local Fishermen

Thanks to the teams on the Hibiscus, working in Indonesia, and the Grand Banks, working in Canada, who in June 2010 came to the rescue of local fishermen who were found in distress near their rigs.

Despite being located halfway around the world from each other, the rig crews responded with similar quick action and kindness.

On the Hibiscus, two fishermen were brought onboard after being discovered in the water near the rig. The two men had been out fishing when their boat was hit by another vessel, and sank. The men survived, but were in the water for nearly 10 hours before seeing the rig and shouting for help.

The Grand Banks helped a wounded fisherman who had gotten his leg entangled in some crab fishing gear. When he arrived on the rig, the Medic prepared him for helicopter transfer to a hospital in St. John’s.
