Grand Banks Raises Money for Cancer Organization
They’ve had some time to grow their hair out, but back in March 2010, approximately 40 members of the Grand Banks team shaved their heads to encourage donations to Young Adult Cancer Canada’s “Shave for the Brave” fundraising event. Even OIM Steve Waites and Husky company representatives Steve Frellick and Jerry Vokey agreed to go bald to support the cause!
Young Adult Cancer Canada works to provide inspiration, information and support to young adults battling cancer in Canada. Shave for the Brave is held in March every year.
In the past, the Grand Banks social committee would donate a percentage of their available funds to different charities. In 2010, instead of just making a donation, they decided that it would be fun to get everyone involved. The participation resulted in $5,433 for Young Adult Cancer Canada – more than double the $2,000 social committee donation.
“The enthusiasm during this event was absolutely fantastic,” said Gaelle Halliday, Radio Operator on the Grand Banks. “Shave for the Brave was a great way to get crew members involved, as well as have fun, all while raising money for an extremely good cause. We were proud to support our community and indeed had a great time doing so!”
