Transocean Ltd. Announces Management Changes

Ihab TomaTransocean announced two major changes within our executive leadership team, both effective October 1. Ihab Toma became Executive Vice President, Chief of Staff, reporting to Steven Newman, President and Chief Executive Officer. Ihab is responsible for Human Resources, Global Supply Chain, Information Technology, Marketing and Asset Divestitures. He also provides strategic direction and helps coordinate the implementation of the company’s vision and strategy across the organization. Before being named to his current position in October 2012, Ihab served as Executive Vice President, Operations, since August 2011 and previously as Executive Vice President, Global Business, and Senior Vice President of Marketing and Planning. Before joining Transocean in 2009, he served in different capacities in Schlumberger, including product line President and various other oilfield services assignments with regional and global responsibilities in France, the United States, Norway, Italy, Nigeria, Algeria, Indonesia and Egypt.

Ihab holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University where he graduated in 1985.

John StobartAdditionally, John Stobart was named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and he will also report to Newman. John’s extensive experience in the industry spans over 35 years. Before joining the company, John served as Vice President, Global Drilling, for BHP Billiton Petroleum in Houston since July 2011. From 1995 to 2011, John served as BHP Billiton Petroleum’s Worldwide Drilling Manager in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. From 1988 to 1995, he served as its Senior Drilling Engineer, Senior Drilling Supervisor, Drilling Superintendent, and Drilling Manager in the United Arab Emirates, Oman, India, Burma, Malaysia, Vietnam and Australia. From 1984 to 1988, John served at Husky/Bow Valley as Engineering Manager, and from 1979 to 1984 he worked in engineering roles at Dome Petroleum/Canadian Marine Drilling. He began his career on land rigs in Canada and the High Arctic in 1971.

John received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary and has also completed the London Business School Accelerated Development Program.

“John is an outstanding addition to our executive management team and we look forward to his contributions,” Steven Newman said. “John has extensive operational and engineering expertise and will continue to advance the process of operational improvement evident in our recent results. I expect that he will be instrumental in taking the company to an even higher level of performance.”
