Spotlight on Terry Bonno pictured with her husband and sons.Terry Bonno

After playing women’s college basketball at Stephen F. Austin State University, Terry Bonno thought her achievements were left on the court of her last successful season in 1980. Little did she know she would get a call 22 years later that she was selected to be inducted into Stephen F. Austin’s (SFA) Athletic Hall of Fame. Terry, Transocean’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, had left a lasting impression on the women’s basketball team. What’s more, the skills she honed on the court have carried over into her successful marketing career.

“Being recognized for the athletic accomplishments during my college years is really overwhelming,” Terry said.” I was thrilled to have my family, friends and former team players with me to celebrate this milestone.”

Terry played on SFA’s women’s basketball team from 1977-1980, and was an All Time Letterman each year. During her tenure as an SFA Ladyjack, she helped the team achieve an 82-25 overall record, ranking in the nation’s top 25 teams three years in a row. They also participated in the national tournament yearly, won numerous state and regional tournaments and even made it to the Elite 8 in 1980.

Aside from helping lead the Ladyjacks to winning seasons year after year, Terry also learned about teamwork, what it takes succeed and has applied these lessons to help mold her career.

“In order to achieve high performance as a successful team it requires dedication, practice, passion, loyalty, communication and above all putting the team’s needs before the individual needs,” Terry explained. “To succeed, everyone has to be striving for the common goal and overcoming their basic human frailty: the ego.   I have been blessed with a high performing marketing organization that fights for the team and the success of the organization.  Wherever I go, I am always inspired by Transocean’s people and that is what keeps me striving to do my best.  I am incredibly proud to be on the TEAM in Transocean and working with such a tremendously talented group of people.”

Terry’s contributions in her career are now solidified beyond her co-workers at Transocean.  Although we are able to attest to her drive, commitment to goals, and leadership qualities, Terry can now take pride in the reaffirmation supported by her alma mater. Congratulations, Terry and thank you for setting an example of how leadership and teamwork lead to success.
