After a Long Run the Discoverer Luanda Gets it Done

The Transocean and BP team on the Discoverer Luanda got it done; they brought first oil to surface from BP’s PA-PC well in Block 31 off Angola. This well is one of many in the PSVM (Plutao, Saturno, Venus and Marte) field development project.

“After successfully finishing our customer acceptance testing, we spudded well PA-PC in December 2010, and completed just the top-hole section; we continued with additional top-hole sections, improving our performance on each consecutive well,” says Chris McBroom, Senior Toolpusher.

In March 2011, the Discoverer Luanda moved back over to well PA-PC to start the drilling phase and the well was t.d.’d in July 2011 and the lower interval was completed.  The DSL then left well PA-PC to drill and complete the next well in the field.

The rig returned yet again to well PA-PC in late January 2012, and all the preparations for the very first well test in the field continued. “Finally, on May 29 at about 8:00 in the morning, the well was opened up and we started the test; it was a sight we had waited for and it seemed like forever!!   This is sure to be the successful start of many more well tests to come on the PSVM development for BP,” said Chris.
