Dear colleagues,

The past several months have seen many changes, and our improving performance is a direct consequence of our employees’ passion and commitment to overcoming challenges and capitalizing on these changes.

In our journey to better achieve our vision, it’s important to acknowledge and appreciate the key ingredient that gets us there - our people.

One example is the Deepwater Champion team featured on page 16; another is the 40 rig years recently contracted with Shell for four newbuild, ultra-deepwater drillships. This unprecedented opportunity is a reflection of the hard work by our people in Marketing and supporting groups, and I am looking forward to the day when our offshore employees place these rigs into service. In addition, employees from all levels worldwide, who exemplify our FIRST core values, were celebrated at the 12th annual FIRST Excellence Awards ceremony, featured on page 22.

Speaking of people, we are delighted that Ihab Toma has become our Chief of Staff, and that John Stobart, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, and Esa Ikäheimonen, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, have joined our senior management team, announced on page 13. We are looking forward to their contributions to helping us achieve our vision.

This is an exciting time for Transocean. Let’s take a moment to appreciate what our people do and celebrate our continued progress. As we wind down 2012, I’d like to thank you for your dedicated, hard work at Transocean.
